Four years ago…

Daniel went from one appointment to the next, grabbed lunch on his way to a potential office site for Adventure Docs, scarfing down the sandwich as he drove. He thought leaving the military would give him more time with Maggie, but they barely saw each other. Once the business opened, he would make time for a life.

Sloan and MD agreed to meet him at the site after their EMT classes at the community college were done for the day.

They walked to the rear of the property where the shop was located and MD yawned.

“We keeping you up?” Daniel teased.

“As a matter-of-fact, you are. This classwork is kicking my ass. I’ll take our training days back in the Corps any day.”

Sloan agreed. “Sitting at a desk is brutal. I’d much rather do a ten-mile run.”

Daniel unlocked the shop door. “All the more reason to check this place out so we can get Adventure Docs off the ground.”

MD sucked down a long swallow of his energy drink. “Okay, I’m through whining. Let’s get this done.”

He and Sloan followed him inside.

Sloan whistled. “Nice space. This should give us plenty of room.”

Daniel agreed. It was large enough for two vans, and there was plenty of storage area, too. He snapped several pictures to send to Colin, Sloan and MD hamming it up in the background.

They left the shop and walked to the house that would serve as their office. The back door opened into a small kitchen/dining room that led to a living room and bathroom with a full bedroom.

“We could use the living room as a command center,” MD said.

Daniel agreed.

They went down to the fully finished basement, converted into a gym with the latest equipment.

MD stroked the weight machine like he would a woman. “Holy shit. I’m getting hard just looking at this.”

Sloan snorted out a laugh. “Everything gives you a hard-on.”

“Not everything, but damn close.”

His comment drew a laugh from Daniel and Sloan.

“What are the chances this equipment comes with the place?” Sloan asked.

Daniel checked out the rowing machine. “If I were selling it, I sure as hell wouldn’t want to lug all this stuff up those stairs.”

“Me, either. Make the owners an offer they can’t refuse,” MD advised.

Daniel took more pictures of the basement and house, then sent them all to Colin. “I just hope Colin’s on board.”

“Fuck Colin. He’s not here. Make an executive decision,” MD said.

Daniel chuckled and didn’t disagree, but felt the need to support his brother. “I’ll admit he’s done his fair share of avoiding work over the years, but he is out protecting and serving his country. But the instant he finishes his tour and comes home, all bets are off.”

“Damn straight,” MD and Sloan both grumbled.

Daniel’s phone dinged and he turned it so the other two could see a picture of Colin giving them a thumbs-up, and a second picture of him giving them all the finger.

They laughed, then high-fived. “We have a site!”

“Let’s get out of here so I can go put in an offer.
